Picking for the 2004 vintage was on April 23, 2004 with premium fruit sourced from our Hindmarsh Island Vineyard and also the esteemed Hickinbotham vineyards at Finnis River and Clarendon. Unfortunately due to the high salinity content of the irrigation water in the 03/04 season, the vines become defoliated and the majority of the fruit was lost, hence the need to secure fruit from other sources. The resulting wine was made by Helen Marzola at Redheads Studio Winery, a boutique winery complex for budding winemakers and enthusiasts in McLaren Vale, South Australia. The end product has shown very luscious fruit characters with well integrated oak to produce a chic and smooth wine. It has been matured in new and old French oak hogsheads for 16 months and closed with screw cap. Final alcohol was 13.8%.
